0800 And 0808 Numbers Have Been Made Free In The UK From Mobiles

Figures show that people in the UK have been spending 250 million hours calling helplines and companies with premium numbers every with a accrued cost of more £900m.

0800 and 0808 numbers have always been free from landlines, however it wasn’t the case for mobile operators. Calling these numbers from mobiles varied from operator to operator.

Effective from today, 1st July, calls to 0800 0808 numbers are free from both landline and mobiles. This affects 175 million phone numbers across all of the UK phone networks.

Others numbers such as 084, 087, 118 and 09 are not quite free yet, but their charging system have been simplified. They will be charged at a per minute rate plus standard access charges set individually by phone networks.
