Blender is a free 3D modelling and animation suite. It can be used to create animated movies, 3D printed models, video games or even just amazing artwork. Although it is a free software, it is in no way any inferior to any other software out there.
Blender is supported in most operating systems including Windows XP, Windows 7, Mac OS, Linux. We’ve put together this installation guide for anyone to follow, whether technical or not.

3D Design Capabilities
Blender shows off the entirety of all there is to 3D design. Modeling and animation along with rigging, simulation, rendering, compositing and motion tracking. Blender even integrates a video editing and game creation system. It is helpful to know python scripting (but not needed at all to be efficient in Blender) for customizing the application and writing specialized tools for yourself and others.
Wings 3D is another free and open-source software. Wings 3D is available for most platforms, including Windows, Linux and Mac OS X and other popular operating systems. Unlike Blender Wings does not support animations and uses basic rendering abilities. Wings can be used to complement other animation software. You can create models in Wings and then export them to applications specialised in animation such as Blender.
Wings files are saved in its own native file formats .wings.
You can import all of the below file formats to Wings:
- Nendo (.ndo)
- 3D Studio (.3ds)
- Adobe Illustrator (.ai)
- Lightwave/Modo (.lwo/.lxo)
- Wavefront (.obj)
- PostScript (Inkscape) (.ps)
- Encapsulated PostScript (.eps)
- Stereolithography (.stl)
- Paths (.svg)
3D Modelling Capabilities
Wings has a wide variety of Selection and Modeling Tools. Just like other more common applications in 3D modelling, Wings allows you to enable Customizable Hotkeys and Interface. In addition, Wings 3D enables you to assign and edit Lighting, Materials, Textures, and Vertex Colours.
